The Assessment Network at Cambridge provides professional development to the assessment community. We believe that learners should be treated with respect by their trainers and The Assessment Network staff. In return, we also expect and anticipate that learners will behave respectfully towards both others and their professional development.

Our code of conduct applies to:

  • Our professional development offer, including live, scheduled and on-demand training.
  • Any other use of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), such as the forums, including membership forums.
  • Any communications with our staff, other participants and members, on any platform, including but not limited to, email, social media and face-to-face.

Responsibilities

We expect that learners:

  • Abide by The Assessment Network terms and conditions.
  • Respect others, regardless of culture, language, ability, race, gender, age or sexual orientation.
  • Behave in a friendly, cooperative, polite and responsible manner towards others, including learners, trainers and staff.

Misconduct

The following are examples of behaviour which are considered as misconduct and may result in a learner’s suspension or exclusion from a course, webinar, training session, membership or any other product or forum provided by The Assessment Network. This would be behaviour, that, in the opinion of The Assessment Network:

  • Prevents, obstructs, or disrupts teaching, learning or administration of learning activities, including, but not limited to:
    • Repeatedly posting in the chat and/or messaging functions in a way that, in the opinion of the moderator(s), disrupt the flow of the session or forum.
    • Deliberately interrupting a session by unmuting their microphone or having distracting background noise.
    • Repeatedly asking the same question when the question has been acknowledged or answered already.
  • Disrupts a training course, either directly or by lack of cooperation, that affects other participants on the programme.
  • Involves making rude or inappropriate comments or posts.
  • Is a misuse or unauthorised distribution of intellectual property belonging to The Assessment Network, which includes programme content, recordings, digital support material and any other resources. For more information, please see The Assessment Network Terms and Conditions, Section 11: Intellectual Property.
  • Carrying out marketing activities that are not directly related to or endorsed by The Assessment Network.

The following are considered examples of gross misconduct:

  • Violence or a threat of violence, including threatening behaviour or language.
  • Racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise discriminatory language.
  • Revealing of sensitive or personal information about themselves or another person.
  • Appeals or attempts to break the law (with UK law as a reference point).
  • Sharing login details or course access to any third party without our prior written permission.
  • Anything that breaches The Assessment Network’s Terms and Conditions.

Disciplinary Procedure

Except in circumstances which are considered acts of gross misconduct, The Assessment Network will follow the below disciplinary procedure.

Stage 1 – Pre-disciplinary procedure

  • A representative of The Assessment Network issues a warning, informing the learner that their behaviour is unacceptable and infringes on The Assessment Network’s Code of Conduct.

Stage 2  – Start of disciplinary procedure

  • A representative of The Assessment Network issues a second, final warning.

Stage 3 – Restriction of training access

  • The learner will be removed from the ongoing session, at the discretion of The Assessment Network.
  • The learner’s ability to communicate to other participants via messaging or forums may be disabled, at the discretion of The Assessment Network.
  • If the learner disregards previous warnings, they may be removed from the training programme.

Stage 4 – Suspension

  • Following repeated incidents, at The Assessment Network’s discretion, a learner will be removed from their currently enrolled programme(s) and may be barred from any other future Assessment Network sessions or products.

In cases of gross misconduct, learners may have their training access immediately restricted or be suspended from their programme(s), at the discretion of The Assessment Network.

If learners fail to comply then depending upon the seriousness of the infraction, their posts may be removed, their access to the course may be temporarily suspended and/or we reserve the right to remove them from the course without a refund. If learners wish to appeal, they should contact a member of The Assessment Network senior leadership team via thenetwork@cambridgeassessment.org.uk.

Raising concerns during training

If learners have any concerns with the conduct of other participants or staff, they should raise their concerns with either their training facilitator, for example by using the private message function within the VLE or BigBlueButton, or by contacting The Assessment Network at thenetwork@cambridgeassessment.org.uk.
